Tankwa Karoo National Park
is located in the Western Cape region of South Africa.

This very young national park located in the desert landscapes of the Great Karoo, lies some 250km northeast of Cape Town. Recently expanded to a sizeable 1100 square kilometres, the landscape is largely flat and arid, with domed hills and a particularly dramatic escarpment to the northeast into which deep valleys or kloofs are cut.

This is a harsh country where lizards and tortoises prevail and where meerkats, mongooses, klipspringers and good range of specialist birds eek out a harsh living. But this is succulent country and the main event comes with the arrival of the spring rains, July to September, when the country can burst into a spectacular carpet of flowers.

Gannaga Lodge ... is the only serviceable accommodation option in the area, everything else is self-catering.
