Tau Camp
is located in the Okavango Khwai River area of the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana.

At 2100 square kilometres, the Khwai Concession is a relatively large private safari area, even by local standards. Situated to the northeast of the Okavango Delta and bordering Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe National Park and the Linyanti Waterfront areas, the area is largely comprised of dry mopane woodland, with water frontage onto the Khwai River only on its southern boundary. Wildlife is generally focused on the better watered southern sector and the northern water holes during the May/Oct dry season, but disperses into the vast wooded hinterland during the converse Nov/Apr green season.

This relatively simple camp is situated to the west of the larger Sable Alley. We understand that it was previously a research facility, which has been upgraded to provide an earthy and lower cost alternative in this excellent area.

The camp has four tents and can only be rented in its entirety to groups of up to 8 guests. It is the same price regardless of the number of guests, so becomes very good value for 6 and more guests.

Rather encouragingly there is no phone signal and no wifi facilities, but there is a central charging facility for devices. Children of all ages are welcome although those 0-11 years are required to share with an adult or older sibling.

Activities include vehicle safari, mokoro canoe safari, motorboat safari and night vehicle safari, with excursions beyond the concession and out into Moremi National Park also being possible. The riverine floodlplain areas around camp are excellent for predators and general wildlife.

Access to the camp is usually by light aircraft, but unusually the camp can be reached by vehicle from Maun in 3-4 hours, which is a pleasant drive and can save a great deal of money, especially for larger groups.

The main potential downsides are the relative simplicity of the camp, the potential for relatively lower wildlife sightings in the dry mopane forest areas immediately around camp and the lack of walking safari options.
