Thamalakane River Lodge

... is set back from the main road, on the east bank of the ephemeral Thamalakane River, around 19km north of the town of Maun in northern Botswana.

Thamalakane River Lodge is a pleasant lodge with extensive public areas containing a large bar and restaurant that caters to locals as well as guests. These lead out to terraces overlooking the river and a decent swimming pool.

Guest accommodation is in 18 stone and thatch chalets in five different price bands.

Activities include day trips into Moremi and mokoro canoe trips into the Okavango, although both are some considerable distance from the lodge.

The lodge is accessed by road, being around 30 minutes north from Maun airport.

Thamalakane River Lodge is a reasonable mid-range place, certainly one of the better options in the Maun area in its price band. It is most commonly used by people over-landing through the area, in which case it makes for a decent overnight.

If you feel that you may need a night in this area, maybe to recover from international flights on the way in, or in order to connect to early departing flights, then this could be an option. You might even choose to stay longer and take a tour of the town, there are some low-key points of interest.
