Thanda Safari Lodge
is located in the Phinda Mkhuze
area of the Natal Northeast
region of Natal
in South Africa
Thanda is a private wildlife reserve which is a substantial component of the 220 square kilometre Zululand Rhino Reserve. It covers a range of habitats, but is dominated by undulating hills of semi-open grasslands and more dense acacia scrub and forest. It contains a full range of wildlife.
Thanda Safari Lodge is a relatively stylish and upmarket option, with substantial public areas including lounge and dining areas, an outdoor dining boma and a substantial spa facility. Guest accommodation is in nine very large and sumptuous guest villas, each with private decks and plunge pools.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari, walking safari and night vehicle safari, with the possibility to go on excursions beyond the reserve and as far as the coast.
The main potential downsides at Thanda Safari Lodge are that the reserve itself is fenced and quite close to the main N2 highway. There is the potential for adverse weather conditions Dec/Apr. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost. The lodge itself is relatively pricey and some people may find the build to be a little on the heavy side. SeasonsPrices
