on the whole, is not very strong in Africa, most countries are too arid or undeveloped to be able to sustain the sport, but there are notable exceptions ...

South Africa is by far the leading golf destination in Africa, the one country which contains a wide range of high quality courses. Perhaps the most famous location is Fancourt in the town of George, although there are plenty of other options in the Western Cape. Golfing in a safari environment is perhaps best in the area around Kruger.

Mauritius is a renowned golfing location, with perhaps the most alluring courses for inclusion in the classic 'bush and beach' type trips, with courses at Constance Belle Mare Plage, Beachcomber Dinarobin Hotel, Beachcomber Paradis Hotel, Heritage Awali, Heritage Le Telfair, Four Seasons at Anahita and Le Touessrok.

Seychelles also features a high quality course at Lemuria Resort.

Kenya is perhaps the next strongest country, with courses in Nairobi, Naivasha and Diani Beach.

Namibia has some rather unusual desert courses, most of which have sand fairways and grass greens, notably at Swakopmund and Windhoek.

Other countries tend to be limited to the centres of the old colonial administrations, such as Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Entebbe in Uganda, although the quality can be quite variable.
