Surfing
is not big in most coastal areas of Africa, the eastern Indian Ocean tending not to generate sufficient waves, whilst the western Atlantic Ocean tends to be rather grey, angry and unappealing, as well as having some really dangerous currents.

Most of the surfing is down on the southern coasts, notably at Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, which is generally considered to be the surf capital.
