Whale-watching
is a popular activity in some parts of the coast of Africa.

Southern right whales, which are filter-feeders, breed off the coast of South Africa Jun/Oct and can be viewed clearly and reliably from the shore, notably at Hermanus on the Whale Coast.

Migrating sperm whales, amongst others, can often be sighted around May and June off the coast of East Africa, notably off the southwest coast of Zanzibar and the western coast of Pemba.

In Namibia the bones of beached whales litter the Skeleton Coast North ... so much so that the hunter-gatherers people who once lived here used them to frame their shelters.
