is located in the Mombasa South
area of the Kenya Coast
The city of Mombasa is centred on an historic fort and a maze of small streets set on an island in a tidal estuary. The southern half of the island is dominated by a large commercial port and associated industry, whilst the mainland either side is packed with busy modern suburbs.
There is no bridge linking the city of Mombasa with the southern coastline, it is necessary to connect by ferry. Around the landing lies the substantial shanty settlement of Likoni, after which there is around 10km of coastline which remains relatively undeveloped due to the lack of prime beaches.
Situated just beyond the outskirts of Likoni, Tijara Beach is a pleasant little owner run lodge, centred on a cosy main building leading out to extensive lawns containing a nice swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in just four cottages, fitted out to the highest standards. There is a coral lagoon immediately below the coral rocks upon which the lodge sits and a nice little beach immediately to the north.
The main potential downsides are the proximity to Mombasa, the fact that the beach here is not so good as those further south and the relatively few activities available on site.
