Udzungwa Forest Camp
, also known as Hondo Hondo Camp
, is located in the Udzungwa Mountains
area in the southern
region of Tanzania
This simple place is set back from the main road just south of the main trailheads. It comprises a brick and thatch bar, open-sided dining area, campfire and several tented rooms set back into the forest.
The British camp owners are passionate about the area, its ecology and conservation, making this the default place to stay for visiting researchers and anyone with an academic interest in the flora or fauna of the forests above.
But the camp does have its practical drawbacks. The tents are rather close, the area is very insectivorous and the nearby village can be quite noisy, the local mosque could wake the dead.
If you are fine with that then Udzungwa Forest Camp is the place to stay. If not then it is perhaps better to visit on a day trip from Stanley's Kopje Camp
in Mikumi, or for longer stays take a look at the nearby Udzungwa Falls Lodge
