is located in the Timbavati Reserve
in the Kruger Private Reserves
area in the Northeast
of South Africa
Set on the banks of a seasonal sand river in the centre of the reserve, Umlani Bushcamp is a deliberately simple facility aimed at more outdoorsy guests. It comprises modest lounge, bar and shop areas contained within in separate rondavels, plus an outside dining boma and a small swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in eight further rondavels, also very simple, but not quite basic. The hosting as affable and the prices are keen.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari. Wildlife viewing in this Timbavati area is reliable year round. The level of guiding here is usually strong.
The main potential downsides are that the lodge is rather too simple for some people. There is the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.
In the Timbavati area the presence of fence lines, overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger.SeasonsPrices
