Vuma Hills Camp
is located in the Mikumi
area in the southern
region of Tanzania
Although being under the same ownership as the excellent Stanley's Kopje Camp
, this place really is not of the same stature.
The setting on the south side of the reserve is across the main TanZam highway from core game-viewing areas. With the vehicle safari loops around the camp not being reliably maintained, every time out means dragging back down to and across the main road.
The lodge itself also feels rather tired. It is apparently due for a complete rebuild, but one has to sympathise with the owners here ... it is difficult to invest in this location given the issues noted above, plus the fact that the direct road to Selous is also rarely maintained sufficiently for traffic to pass.
Vuma Hills Camp is advantaged by its distance from the main road and by its broad views, but we only tend to consider it for overland safaris when Stanley's Kopje Camp
is fully booked.
